Imagine - baby on sideOn July 27th we can save 10 to 100 lives.  Yes, we can save some lives from malaria next Monday, but we can save more lives with your help.  Your part is very simple.  Bring your friends and family to Culver’s located at 13240 Route 47, (just north of the tollway) between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.    We need you to actually purchase food, even if it’s a small treat.   We need you to invite your friends because our church will receive between 5 % and 20 % of the sales received between 4 and 8 p.m.   We need you to eat-in, carry-out, and/or take home some frozen custard for your freezer, but be sure to purchase it between 4 and 8 p.m. on Monday, July 27.

Yes, malaria is preventable and curable.  The approach is four-fold.   Malaria can be prevented with bed nets, medicine, and elimination of standing water.   Malaria can be treated with a sound-infrastructure of churches, schools, hospitals and clinics.  Malaria can be diminished with proper education.   Malaria resources can be utilized with improved communication.

Yes, the United Methodist Church in Africa is equipped to coordinate this task.   United Methodists have been present in Africa for over 200 years.   The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has a four-star rating (the highest available) from Charity Navigators, a group which investigates charities and rates their financial practices.  The World Health Organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the United Nations Foundation partner with UMCOR because of our experience, our physical resources and our human connections in African communities.

So, enjoy your trip to Culver’s.   For every dollar you spend our church will be receiving 5 to 20 cents.   The percentage we make depends upon the total sales. We hope to see you at Culver’s (Route 47, Huntley, north of I-90) between 4 and 8 p.m.   You don’t need a coupon.   Bringing your friends will help increase our sales.
