The following request for a Call to Prayer comes from the Northern Illinois Conference:

Since the election of our new President in November, reports of hate-filled crimes, attacks and insults particularly against people of ethnic minorities have dramatically increased.  What can we do as Christians? What can we do as United Methodists?

We, as Hispanic/Latinos from the Northern Illinois Conference are inviting every church to a “Call to Prayer” on Sunday, January 8, 2017 for our Nation, our new President, for all those who govern us, for the ethnic minorities and for those who feel intimidated, discriminated and rejected. We need each and everyone of you to pray for guidance and direction. We need to be the Christians that God wants us to be, hospitable, welcoming and sensitive to the needs of others.

“Our Hispanic/Latino families and churches are calling upon their United Methodist family to prayer on Sunday, January 8.  Let us demonstrate our unity in diversity as an annual conference by joining in one voice of prayer for our nation during this time of political transition,” said Bishop Sally Dyck.
